As a new student to the martial art world, I did some research as to what style I should learn. There is everything from kung fu, karate, aikido and many more oriental styles of martial arts to those of the europeans (such as fencing, boxing, pankration, etc.).
I really didnt know where to start. I picked up a book from the Tuttle Martial Arts series. The kung fu edition to be exact and began to read it. Its quite interesting. He covers everything from the history to the traditions of the myriad kung fu styles tracing them all back to their roots.
Then he proceeded to cover the most likely training you'd have for the first 6 months. Since its as good a place as any to start I'm going to practice whats in the book while I search for a dojo to call my second home.
I must admit I took about a month and a half of Traditional Japanese Jujutsu and was utterly enthralled. Unfortunetly partly due to injury and lack of funds I was unable to continue my training. Curse the life of a college student on minimum wage. I hope that some day soon I can go back there and apologize to my sensei and sempai for seemingly being ... weak willed and lacking in determination. I had no intention to quit.
Signing off, This is Wu-jing
